Sarandon and Portman star as Adele and Ann August in this movie, based on a best selling novel. Tiring of small town life, restless mother, Sarandon, drags her reluctant teenage daughter, Portman, to a busy city life in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles. The film tells the tale of the hardships they endure, the people they meet, the change of lifestyle they are forced to cope with and the relationships they form, until Portman has to leave for college.
This movie is not going to really be much of a box office hit. It is more of a family-weepy movie, and hence shall really only appeal to that type of audience. Sarandon seems to enjoy making maternal movies, as her last one, Stepmom was a box office smash. Portman, meanwhile chose a much more sentimental and low-hyped movie to do, after her role in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, showing an intersting maturity in choosing roles. Overall, the acting may be top class, but the film is unlikely to threaten the box office.
